During Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Centenary year, the National Service Scheme (NSS) started its journey in 1969. The scheme was first launched in 37 universities comprising of 40,000 students. Today, NSS has become the largest Government organization of students in the country, with members spanning from +2 levels to college and also at the university level. The number of volunteers has now increased to more than thirty lakhs, which makes NSS one of the largest student forces in the world.
Students, teachers, guardians, persons in authority in government, universities, colleges/schools, and the general public now realize the need for and significance of NSS. It has aroused among the young students an awareness of the realities of life and a better understanding and appreciation of the problems of the people. NSS helps the student to grow individually and also as a group. It makes the students confident, develops leadership skills, and helps them gain knowledge about different people from different walks of life. At IBM, we nurture the potential of students to participate actively in societal work and reforms and allow them to develop a holistic approach towards life. Through various programs, we encourage our students to participate in various community tasks and solve different social issues. Thus, at IBM, we teach our students to shape their academic sphere and train them to become true leaders with an all-round development of body, mind and soul, which will help build a better nation.
Over the years, the Institute of Business Management (IBM) has been known for its remarkable contributions towards society. Under the banner of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Ms. Tanusree Das, Assistant Professor, Teacher-in-Charge (BBA), Institute of Business Management and the Programme Officer of NSS Unit No. 32 of Jadavpur University, has been imparting hands-on training on Leadership and Communication Skills, Social Responsibilities as well as Value Education through Community Engagement and Services to the NSS volunteers of the Institute. The Institute has undertaken various social outreach programmes for the benefit of society and the destitute, through which students have learnt to develop empathetic and socio-cultural skills.
