Institute of Business Management (IBM)

National Service Scheme (NSS)

During Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Centenary year, the National Service Scheme (NSS) started its journey in 1969. The scheme was first launched in 37 universities comprising of 40,000 students. Today, NSS has become the largest Government organization of students in the country, with members spanning from +2 levels to college and also at the university level. The number of volunteers has now increased to more than thirty lakhs, which makes NSS one of the largest student forces in the world.

Students, teachers, guardians, persons in authority in government, universities, colleges/schools, and the general public now realize the need for and significance of NSS. It has aroused among the young students an awareness of the realities of life and a better understanding and appreciation of the problems of the people. NSS helps the student to grow individually and also as a group. It makes the students confident, develops leadership skills, and helps them gain knowledge about different people from different walks of life. At IBM, we nurture the potential of students to participate actively in societal work and reforms and allow them to develop a holistic approach towards life. Through various programs, we encourage our students to participate in various community tasks and solve different social issues. Thus, at IBM, we teach our students to shape their academic sphere and train them to become true leaders with an all-round development of body, mind and soul, which will help build a better nation.

Over the years, the Institute of Business Management (IBM) has been known for its remarkable contributions towards society. Under the banner of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Ms. Tanusree Das, Assistant Professor, Teacher-in-Charge (BBA), Institute of Business Management and the Programme Officer of NSS Unit No. 32 of Jadavpur University, has been imparting hands-on training on Leadership and Communication Skills, Social Responsibilities as well as Value Education through Community Engagement and Services to the NSS volunteers of the Institute. The Institute has undertaken various social outreach programmes for the benefit of society and the destitute, through which students have learnt to develop empathetic and socio-cultural skills.

NSS volunteer from BBA, Batch 1, Mr. Sreejit Sengupta participated at the National Integration Camp, Etawah, Uttar Pradesh

Participating in the National Integration Camp is a unique and enriching experience as an NSS volunteer. The camp brings together individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, fostering unity and a sense of belonging. I enjoy this camp by engaging wholeheartedly in various activities such as group discussions, cultural performances, and social service initiatives. These activities enhance my skills and deepen my understanding of India’s rich cultural diversity.

The morning sessions, with yoga and physical exercises, rejuvenate my spirit and promote discipline. Workshops and lectures by inspiring speakers broaden my perspective on social and national issues. I cherish the evenings filled with cultural exchanges where I learn traditional dances, songs, and customs from other states, creating lifelong friendships.

Participating in community service activities, like cleaning drives or awareness campaigns, gives me immense satisfaction as I contribute to society and witness the impact of collective efforts. The camaraderie, shared experiences, and teamwork in achieving common goals make the camp unforgettable.

This camp teaches me the true essence of unity in diversity, inspiring me to be a responsible citizen and work towards national integration. It is not just an event but a transformative journey. I wish I could have participated in more such camps and would definitely recommend each of the NSS volunteers to participate at least once in such camps in their lifetime.

NSS Secretary in the Students’ Council of the Insititute of Business Management, BBA, Batch 2, Ms. Susmita Routh, participated at National Integration Camp, Raniganj, Jharkhand

As my college’s NSS Secretary and NSS Volunteer, participating in a National Integration Camp (NIC) is a unique and enriching experience. Embracing this opportunity to interact with students from diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds was simply mind-blowing. Engaging actively in discussions, workshops, and cultural exchange programs, I learned about the rich heritage and unity in diversity that define our nation.

I participated in all activities, including group discussions, debates, and volunteer projects, as these are platforms to share your ideas and gain fresh perspectives. One can take the lead in organizing or coordinating tasks assigned to any group, showcasing one’s leadership and teamwork skills.

Cultural nights and performances are the heart of the camp. One can contribute by representing their college and state’s culture through songs, dances, or skits and enjoy the vibrant displays of traditions from across the country. This is also a chance to foster lasting friendships and networks.

Additionally, through such camps, one can contribute to community service projects undertaken during the camp, which aligns with the NSS motto of “Not Me, But You.” This will help them grow as an individual and instil a deeper sense of social responsibility.

Finally, one could reflect on their experiences and take back ideas to implement in their college’s NSS unit, ensuring the spirit of national integration continues to thrive.
